Welcome to First Christian Church
We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a broken world. As part of one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.
Our Vision and Mission
Vision Statement: To be a growing church who welcomes all, grows spiritually, and serves others.
Mission Statement: To invite and welcome all to the Lord’s Table, to strengthen our spirituality with God and one another through prayer, worship, study, and fellowship, and to serve our community with passion.
A Few Words About First Christian Church
For over 175 years First Christian Church has been a worshiping, caring, Christ-centered congregation in Bloomington, Illinois. From its humble 1837 beginnings in the home of pioneer founder, William T. Major, this church now overflows a city block on Bloomington’s near west side. Strong, effective Christian leadership and a genuine practice of hospitality by its members provide creative traditional and modern worship experiences, religious education for all ages, fellowship, and mission opportunities. These programs and activities are designed to enhance spiritual growth and foster a sense of commitment to be loving witnesses to God’s presence and faithfulness in this community. Our faithful past has led us to a mission-centered and engaging present, and points the way to a glorious future.

Choose Your Worship Service
Note: currently we offer only the 9:00 a.m. service. At 9:00 a.m. we worship in the Sanctuary which has wooden pews, beautiful stained glass, and both a main level and balcony. This service is fairly traditional, with hymns, organ and piano music, Chancel Choir, sermon, and communion. At 10:15 a.m. we worship in the Fellowship Hall. This service is a progressive worship experience with current music, led by the One and All band, sermon, and communion. It is a relaxed service that focuses on unity and equality. What to wear? You’ll find people in everything from suits and ties to t-shirts and shorts. Come as you are.
Make Your Way to the church, Park, and Come on In!
We have Visitor spots in our parking lot to the north of the church. Please use one of these spots reserved for you and come in the church through the north entrance. There are stairs and an elevator available. When you get to the main level, turn left and you will find our Centrum with signs directing you to the Sanctuary for the 9:00 a.m. service or to Fellowship Hall for the 10:15 a.m. One and All service.
